Why Some Stories Stay With Us Long After We Finish Them

Why do some books stay in our minds long after the final page? Inspired by The Housemaid series by Freida McFadden, this reflection explores trust, survival, healing, and the stories

Some books entertain us for a few days. Others seem to linger long after we’ve finished the final page.

This conversation was inspired by my review of The Housemaid series by Freida McFadden, but it quickly became something broader than a book discussion. While reflecting on Millie’s story, I found myself thinking about trust, survival, healing, and the way past experiences continue to influence how we see the people and situations around us.

Why is it sometimes harder to trust peace than it is to survive chaos? How do we tell the difference between intuition and fear? And what happens after we’ve made it through difficult chapters of life?

Rather than focusing on plot twists, this episode explores the questions that stayed with me after the books were finished. It’s a reflection on the stories we carry, the memories that shape us, and the quiet ways fiction can sometimes reveal something true about being human.
